The cool-touch handle ensures that you won’t burn your fingers as you’re browning your lunch, and makes it easy to transfer the sandwich from the toaster to your plate. Hand-assembled in England. Imported. 1-3/4Hx6Wx17-1/2L”.

Never ate so many grilled cheese sandwiches before!
Got a used 4 slice Dualit toaster from a family member who replaced theirs. Tore it apart, cleaned everything and replaced the elements (use only genuine elements!!). Works great. In any case, saw this gadget (I am a sucker for gadgets). Bought one (instead of four) just to try one out. The box comes with the gadget and some recipes.I had grilled cheese in mind…Needless to say, I have not had so many grilled cheese sandwiches before in my life.Works well, once you get the timer dialed in to the darkness you want.Only thing to be aware of is the slits and therefore the ‘sandwiches’ are narrow. Not a problem for grilled cheese. Now the question is, do I need to buy 3 more for production purposes, when the kids come home for the Holidays….;)

Great Idea for Making Sandwiches in a Toaster
UPDATE: I am updating this review only as a result of reading others’ reviews. If one reads the instructions or watches Dualit’s videos, when making sandwiches, one should follow the British way of making sandwiches since this is a British product—cut off the crusts for a better sandwich, although not strictly necessary. Next, these cages are NOT meant to make a grilled cheese sandwich. The operative word in this name of the sandwich is ‘Grilled.’ One is not grilling the sandwich. One is toasting a sandwich; ergo, the result is a toasted cheese sandwich. If one expects to end up with a grilled cheese sandwich—well, one will be out of luck. So, when reviewing the product or even purchasing these cages, don’t give it a 1-star rating simply because it does not grill your sandwich or because it burns your crusts. The result will be a wrongful and not helpful review of the product.Although these Sandwich Cages are made by Dualit and for the Dualit Classic NewGen and Dualit other model toasters, they will work in other branded toasters as well. I love a toasted sandwich and I tried it out to see how good a toasted sandwich could be.So, I made the easiest sandwich which is one of my favorites—a simple grilled cheese sandwich. Of course, this is a toasted cheese sandwich. Following the directions, I buttered the outside of two pieces of white bread, and placed two slices of American cheese in the middle with three slices of sweet pickles, folded the two pieces of bread to make into a sandwich and closed the sandwich cage. As a warning, I prepared the bottom buttered slice of bread sitting on the out-folded sandwich cage. Then I took my second sandwich cage and did the same thing. I put both cages into my new Dualit NewGen toaster (the toaster the sandwich cages were actually made for), popped them into the slots 1 and 2, lowered them and locked them in place, and set the timer to just a little past the · (dot) and waited for them to toast. When you butter your bread, make sure you brush the bread with the butter or at least insure that you use softened butter that spreads thinly on the bread. If you spread the butter too thickly, it will leak into the toaster which is a definite no-no.When the toasting was finished, I had two beautifully toasted cheese and pickle sandwiches. The cheese was not melted like a grilled cheese sandwich, but rather was slightly melted—melted enough to not fall out of the bread—enough to be warm to the touch. The pickles were cold out of the refrigerator and they were also warm to the touch. These sandwich cages are a great way to make this new twist on a traditional classic—the ubiquitous sandwich, and just different enough to be crunchy to the taste and wonderful to eat.

    Greatest Toaster Add-on Ever!
We use this for toasting croissants and cornbread muffins! We use this more than just the toaster! Would highly recommend getting this add-on, as you’ll end up using it almost every morning! Awesome!

Your sandwich cannot be thicker than 23 mm, period, to fit in this sandwich cage
If you live in the US and own a classic Dualit 2 slot toaster that is decades old, read on. You obviously know that this is a temperamental, “heritage” machine that does not justify its asking price (like some foreign sports cars I shall not name). You might have even repaired it yourself a few times with parts ordered from the UK. You could have had any cheap toaster in the world that could toast more evenly, but you still refuse to part with your Dualit. So, to throw good money after bad, you finally buy the even-more-problematic Dualit sandwich cage, which design dates from the middle of the 20th century. As warned by many reviewers, this is a UK product for UK sliced bread. In the UK, you can buy sliced bread marked “Thin”, and each slice may only 10mm thick. This makes a UK sandwich of 20mm (2 slices), with 3mm for a thin filling. The sandwich cage interior is only 23 mm wide. Any bread over 23 mm will bulge out of the steel ribs of the cage and potentially touch the heating element and you’ll start smelling burning food. In my US supermarket, the ordinary thinnest sliced sandwich bread is 14mm per slice. At 28 mm, plus a slice of ham and cheese and some mustard, it bulged out of the cage, although the cage can still be inserted into the toaster. However, this caused burning, so I had to start my experiment over. You can make a perfectly thin and satisfactory UK toastie IF you follow all the rules. You could use pita bread which tends to be thinner. There is an elaborate recipe and instructions booklet included which, true to Dualit’s British heritage, over-explains everything and even includes an outrageous sandwich recipe which they challenge you to love or hate (no spoilers, find out for yourself). Happy experimenting!

    Works Great
I use these to warm cookies, small bread slices etc. Works fine.Note: push toaster down then insert basket. My KitchenAid toaster will not lock down if I put the basket in first

    Great! Use all the time
Perfect and fast to make a grilled cheese sandwich – love it!

  7. Lurker

    Quality, well made product.
Well made and sturdy. Unable to use until I can afford to get a Dualit toaster.

    Toaster sandwiches
To be honest, this didn’t really work. The bread would burn before the cheese melted. Tried it a couple of times and never used it again

  9. Maria Pilar Diez Garcia

Aunque me parece un poco caro, es un producto de buena calidad y muy muy práctico.

  10. Amazon Customer

Great quality, solid and will last years. Really good for roasties or anything other than sliced bread. Not cheap but worth it for the quality.

    Conforme

Op zich is de klem solideMaar, er past geen normale tosti in. Alleen heel dun brood. Tosti wordt ook niet echt mooi goudkleurig en kaas smelt nauwelijks. Te duur dus voor niet leveren.

Love making toaster sandwiches with this! Good quality, just make sure your bread isn’t to thick!
