The Dualit Classic Toaster combines simplicity and sophistication ideally. It features extra-wide 28 mm slots to accommodate a sandwich cage. ProHeat elements increase toasting efficiency and element longevity. The toaster has a removable crumb tray and an adjustable rear foot. Manually operated, the Dualit toaster features a dial to control the degree of browning. This allows you to enjoy your toast exactly the way you like it. An ejector system means that the toast does not pop up but stays warm until the ejector lever is pushed up. It can be set to toast however many slices you wish and has a handy bagel function to toast one side whilst warming the other. Each of these toasters is assembled by hand and the assembler’s individual mark can be found on the base plate.

The settings are user-friendly. However, some customers have issues with the slot size. Opinions vary on value for money, toasting time, and heat retention.

Gorgeous, heavy, no electronic controls to break!
1000% worth the money. This toaster is built like a 1950s car: it’s shiny, weighs a ton, and has zero “smart” electronic features. It will basically just look good and toast your bread and subsequently, last for the rest of your life. I have some Breville toasters that look great and work well, until the buttons fail and then they are literal garbage.

Ridculously priced, but only servicable toaster available
My Oster toaster bit the dust, only working some of the time and sometimes on one side sometimes on another. I was going to replace it with an identical one, but it’s no longer made, but some of the reviewers had their more recent models lasting 6 months. And well I’ve had it with the throwaway economy. So I held my nose and bought this toaster after watching the you tube videos on how to replace the elements and the switch and watching way too many videos of people making toast with all the various toasters. I had considered a toaster oven but I don’t have counter space with the 4″ clearance all around you need to not light the cabinets, and wall on fire. Next I checked the price of replacement parts, as they had better be less than a new toaster, and currently they are. Replacement of the various bits looks well within my skills so no problem there. On the toast, that is why we buy these things. Yes it makes toast. Yes it will defrost the bread first. Yes there are no thermo-couple devices in it to determine whether your toast is done to perfection. You have to experiment a bit, starting of course with the basic recommended setting. As the toaster does heat up when making multiple slices, ie more than a single batch, you’ll probably want to reduce the time a tad.Is the toast perfectly brown along all the face, no, it’s slightly more done at the top, well heat rises. Did the toast get defrosted, yep, no issues there. Did a bagel work, yep, same for an “english muffin”, on the “bagel” setting which is where the center heats up more than the outer edges. When it’s done, the timer does a “click” and that’s it, no bell, so you have to be paying attention. It does not automatically lift out, you have to push the level down, not an issue for me as my wrists still work fine.I did buy a sandwich press so that I can put smaller pieces of toast in it without them being caught by the lifter bar and the interior wires. First time I tried it, they didn’t get stuck but I had to use tongs to get them out. Didn’t burn them, and they were pretty evenly toasted as they were all at the same level. Is this thing worth the price? I have no idea, but if the current level of Oster toasters last only a year, and the reports are that this one should last at least two to three before elements are replaced (maybe longer some folks seem to get a lot of use out of theirs) the price is a break even. And I can feel good about not adding to the trash heap in the desert.Does it look cool? yeah. Does it take up more space than my old Oster? Just a bit. Is it hard to operate? no. Is it plastic? or have a plastic outer case? no.There is one mechanical lever for lifting your toast out, one dial to set it for the number of slices (left to right, when facing the toaster), or bagel. And one mechanical timer switch with a snow flake on it for defrost, a couple of random numbers, (2, 3) and a dot which the manual says is the correct place to start when making toast. Can you add just “a tad more time” yes, but if you asked for too much you can either just let it run out on it’s own or push the timer to the off position.if my opinion changes on this thing, I’ll update this review. But so far it’s the best choice for me.

Classic and beautiful toaster.
This is my second Dualit in 20 years. They last a long time and deliver great toast. Looks way better on the counter than anything else. Classic. Can buy repair parts when needed.

Perfect English Muffins
This toaster is an anachronism in our kitchen. It has a mechanical timer, a lever to raise and lower the bread, and a style that looks like it belongs in the 1940s. Quite a contrast from our 21st Century appliances with glowing digital readouts, touchscreens and computerized controls. I love it simply because it makes the best toast and english muffins that I have had in a long time. The secret is simple. It is very powerful. 1250 Watts is uncommon for a 2-slice toaster, but that is what it takes to make good toast. I have not been able to find a toaster this powerful in almost 2 decades. Don’t worry, I can hold my hand over the top of the toaster while it is on and feel just a slight amount of heat. It is all focused on the bread. As for the toaster, it is rock solid construction and attractive in its own retro way. My wife is adjusting to the manual features. To make toast requires two extra steps. First, drop in the bread, lower the bread into the toaster by raising the lever and then turn the timer dial to the desired setting. Once the toast is done, the toast must be manually raised by pushing the lever back down. I prefer the 2 minute setting. My english muffin comes out brown and crispy on the outside and still soft inside. Just perfect. Bread toasts evenly and quickly. As with a toaster with this much wattage, toast can range from slightly warm to completely black on the outside. And the bread inside will still be soft. I’ll take perfect toast over blue lights and automated gimmicks any day.2024 UpdateI just used this toaster just now and it is still working great. It makes the best toast ever. I had to look it up- I bought my Dualit Toaster in March 2011. It shines up looking like new and still works like new after 13 1/2 years. Great investment.

Got Burnt with this Toaster! ) :
Unfortunately, my chrome 4 slice toaster arrived with a timer – knob that was different than the one pictured in the advertised photos. The knob had an ! inside a triangle shape whereas the advertised one had verbiage’ specific to unplugging the toaster after use. According to the manufacturer, the timer- knob changes over time and the most current version is the one pictured with the unplug verbiage’. Additionally, the manufacturer recommended checking the serial number located on the bottom of the toaster to confirm the date the toaster was produced. It appears that I received an older version rather than the more current one per both the serial number and timer-knob. Furthermore, the toaster arrived in its original box and not in a shipping carton for added protection during transit. As well, it did not arrive in the same excellent new condition as the Dualit 4 slice toaster I purchased from Williams Sonoma several years ago. I actually love Dualit’s 4 slice toaster, it’s consistent quality toasting (especially bagels), the workmanship and durability, and fun retro style. However, I returned this toaster to Amazon due to the different timer-knob, an older serial number, it’s questionable new condition, and substandard packaging!

Looks great in my newly renovated kitchen. Cooks consistently, and the kids have no issues with the controls.

Fantastic and great quality. This toasts slowly giving the result of a golden toast with nice chewie center.Easy to clean and the cover over the elements prevent the interior from building up debris

In a world where everything is increasingly disposable, the Dualit toaster stands at the ready. I’ve had several lesser toasters over the years, and they have all failed me in one way or another. This one is different. Mine was made in England. By Paul. It says so right on the bottom. But does it toast? Hell yes. If there was a Toast God, surely this toaster would be alone and venerated on his altar. It browns exceptionally evenly. The timer takes a bit of getting used to…traditional toasters have a vague sort of thermostat. This monument to toast technology is designed so you can *fix it* if needed. I don’t expect that I will need to replace anything for a decade or more though. I mean, they cover the heat elements in *mica* (look it up) to protect them. I fully expect this is the last toaster I will ever need to buy. To quote Ferris Bueller, If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.Update: July 2020. Three years in, almost daily use. Zero issues. I have no major complaints. However, perhaps looking for flaws, there are some things I’d change. The screws holding the toaster together are effective, but not very nice to look at. I’d expect a high-end fastener…something a bit in keeping with the overall aesthetic. The crumb tray…works very well, but feels a bit flimsy by comparison. There is a red “in use” light, but it’s not particularly bright. When the timer runs down, there is no indication the cycle is complete, other than you can’t hear the subtle ticking sound. Maybe a muted bell would be a nice addition? I suspect Dualit thought of this and decided to skip it for cost reasons. And to avoid people complaining about the bloody bell. Other than these minor complaints, it’s been a pleasure.

Works great, toasts evenly and looks fantastic. I should have bought one long ago after going through many other toasters. This toaster can be rebuilt when needed so it should be the last one. I like the manual lift so I can check the toast if I wish plus it keeps the toast warmer since it doesn’t pop up when done. The timer heat control works great for each individual preference, the crumb tray removes easy for cleaning and the four, three or two slice toasting option saves energy. Recommend.
