Finally found a toaster that works
Great toaster at small price. Settings continuous so degree of browning has wide range. Works with both one or two slices of bread and is good for French bread as well as thin slices.

A good basic toaster, would recommend.
After reading up on Consumer Reports toaster list and an insane amount of Amazon reviews I decided on this one. It’s a perfectly functional toaster. It works great. My spouse uses it daily and is pleased. It’s been used for homemade sourdough bread toast, pop-tarts, and raisin bread. No complaints. Definitely follow the instructions and burn off the factory oils first before actually making toast. I think we ran it twice on the deck. No trouble or smell since then.

Really nice toaster
I really like this toaster but it does not toast the bread evenly. A third to three quarters of the toast is darker than the rest but It is still a very good toaster for the money.

awesome !!!!!!
researched on consumer reports and here, chose this model for several reasons, including the slot size. good price, perfect toast results on all settings, looks pretty good on the counter. the ability to lift the toast up an extra inch or so with the lever after popping up is nice too,…. make sure to run it thru 2-3 cycles in your garage or outside before using it the first time on bread to get rid of any oilly burnt smell form the assembly process, then your good to go

Did not work.
This model was Consumer Reports highest rated two slice toaster. It worked very well, evenly toasted the bread on both sides. After several months I used a bagel feature. It was still toast full strength on both sides. I replaced it with a different brand and donated this to a charity as it is a great toaster and I did not find out it did not do Bagels until I’ve had it far too long to exchange.

How Hard Could It Be??
I can’t believe I have spent so many hours reading reviews, looking for a good toaster. I read one review of this one noting that, in this day and age, a toaster likely should be connected to your phone with cameras alerting you to the status of your toast, but my thought is that, in this day and age, it seems toasting bread should have been figured out by now. What seems disappointingly consistent across the mostly four star average reviews of every toaster on Amazon is that no one can seem to make a toaster that does perfectly what one would hope it to do — evenly toast some bread!I was coming from a Black and Decker model that, over the many years I’ve owned it, has steadily worsened in its somewhat dismal initial performance. Basically, I have to babysit the toast or it is underdone, overdone, or unevenly done. I looked at a few of the “windowed” models here on Amazon, thinking, wow, I could actually know what’s happening while spending time watching my toast, but then I read those only heat from the bottom, so the top doesn’t get cooked, and the models with the “autolift” electronic lift mechanism tend to malfunction….so, it seems to be a case of, so much for any new innovations in toasters in the last 124 years. This one got great reviews, which is why I bought it, but it seems I am not having the same success here. I see a lot of the “free” product reviews are five stars, so maybe it’s a case of overly happy people with a free toaster giving rave reviews, which would be a shame, but, in any case, my real world experience, having bought this thing, is that it does NOT toast the bread evenly, which is really annoying.I really wanted a toaster I could just put the bread in, crank the handle down, and come back and find great toast, but nope. I will say it does a better job than my last one, in using the “defrost” function. Most of my bread is in the freezer, since I don’t go through a loaf too quickly, meaning it would spoil if left on the counter or in a bread box, so I do appreciate that it does a better job than my last toaster in how it handles frozen bread, at least getting both sides cooked instead of just one, but for whatever reason, no matter what the setting, or what bread I have used, this one cooks the top of the toast more than the bottom, so that means a double trip and babysitting again — put it through once, then flip it over and watch for it not to burn the part that was already cooked. Kinda frustrating, and not much better than the one I had, from that respect, in having to play “toastmaster” and monitor the cooking manually.I guess my next try could be the $170 “smart” toaster, but it also gets pretty low marks, with complaints of the autolift failing, and, again, failing to cook evenly. For nearly $200 I’d expect some perfect toast, so I don’t know that I even want to attempt that potential disappointment. For now I will maintain my role of toast monitor, doing what a toaster can’t seem to do, for all of its bells and whistles. Not that I really have a whole lot more to do at that hour of the morning, than park by my toaster, but it does get annoying when trying to prepare a breakfast with some timing involved, when I can’t count on the toaster to do its job. And, yes, in today’s troubled world, my toaster complaints are likely the most insignificant upset when compared to real world vexations that far exceed an area of sightly uncooked bread, but I remain frustrated nonetheless, and felt others should know that, while this seems acceptably built (the cord is a bit short, as others have noted) and has decent functions, especially the lift lever to retrieve shorter items without burning oneself, for me, this isn’t a home run, since it doesn’t cook evenly. If anyone knows of a toaster that really works, I’d love to hear about it.Thanks for reading, and I hope this has helped.

Great toaster
We have had several toasters in the past few years all of which were well-known brands. However, we were neversatisfied with the toaster’s performance when it came to actually toasting bread, English muffins, etc. One sidewas always pale and underdone. We read about this moderately priced toaster and were interested because thereviews indicated that it really worked. We were amazed by what a great job it does of toasting both sides ofwhatever we put in it. We would definitely recommend this toaster to anyone who wants toast that is brownedon both sides!

Warranty Customer Service cumbersome
Unit worked fine for 7 months. Then lever that stays down while toasting stopped working. Was told by customer service they would take care of me. At 1st they asked for label, then asked for another email of receipt, then another email for video of it not working. Sent all 3 and never heard back. I followed up with emails and still nothing. After 4 days I called again and they called back offering eventually to replace it and I pay $14.95 postage, until I balked and held while supervisor gave a “one-time only” approval to waive that. However their warehouse is closed for annual inventory for the next 11 days. They plan to call me back then to make arrangements to send it out. Whew! In a way I’m glad I persisted; in another way I wish I hadn’t. I can order another toaster and get it sooner with less aggravation. Lesson learned thank you, West Bend!!

Did a lot of research before purchasing this West End toaster and it paid off handsomely since it’s wonderful. It perfectly toasts my English muffins, it’s nice and light, looks great and it’s simple to operate. For those who might be interested Consumer Reports highly recommends this toaster.

A very sleek, sturdy and not overly heavy toaster. What stands out to me the most, would be the turning knob. The smooth & clicky sounds it makes as you turn it is oddly satisfying to my ears (for those who appreciate a little ASMR). The colour theme of charcoal black and light gray is also nice. I’ll let you know now, for those who are anal about an “even” toast – I haven’t seen it. However, still a decent toaster! Especially with the bagel + frozen functions.Update: I have noticed that it doesn’t always ‘click’ in place when pressing down to toast. Kinda stressful.
